This is the first in, what I like to call, a long line of 3D models rendered using [Blender]. I have started using this program a month ago because I have always enjoyed computer generated graphics and it was just about time I got involved. Movies like Animatrix and Ice Age caught my attention from the technical point of view. It is becoming more and more exciting to see how accurately computer programs can reproduce reality.
The reasons why I chose Blender are:
•   most importantly, it is a freeware product
•   people on internet forums suggested it was the best free alternative to powerful expensive programs
•   there are a lot of internet communities out there posting tutorials, materials, textures and so on
•   I like programs made initially to work on Linux (even though I don't have a distro installed yet).
I don't claim that this is an easy program to learn by yourself but as long as you have a permanent internet connection and you can access the tutorials you will be just fine. The GUI is like nothing you have ever seen before but it is pretty straight forward and it really eases the workflow as you get the hang of it. I managed to come up with [this] in a month (I do not pretend it to be perfect) so why not give it a try on your spare time.
